Feasters (aka Fewsters)

Thomas and Rachel Feaster

Rachel Feaster (jnr) who married George Newby was born at Grimston, according to 1851 and subsequent censuses. It is certainly known that her father was Thomas from her marriage certificate. Searches for Feasters born in Grimston yield a Thomas Feaster born in 1821 in North Grimston, presumably the brother of Rachael. Thomas’ father is Thomas and his mother is Rachel. A search of marriages reveals a marriage between Thomas Feaster and Rachel Wright in 1809 in Bugthorpe. Initial searches of 1841 and 1851 censuses do not reveal any Thomas Feasters in Yorkshire. However a search of the 1841 censuses with spelling variations reveals a Rachel and Thomas Fewster living in North Grimston with their family Isaac, Jane and John.

Thomas was born in Gilling and Rachel was born in Snainton according to the 1851 census. Further census searches for the name Fewster reveal possible other siblings, as shown below.

The Family of Thomas Feaster and Rachel Wright

Thomas was born in Gilling and Rachel was born in Snainton according to the 1851 census.

Thomas and Rachel are still alive by the 1861 census but are dead by 1871. There is a possible death of Rachel Fewster in Malton in Q1 1865 and a death of Thomas Fewster in York in Q2 1868.

William Fewster only appears in the 1851 census as head of his own family, as shown below.

John Fewster has two children in the censuses. Interestingly the eldest child is called Gill in the 1861 census, indicating that her mothers name was Gill. The family is shown below.
